Is Torbay’s Management rotten and overloaded or just simply driven by inexperienced decision makers?

Over and again I find areas of wastage, but with new methods of doing things, savings can be found.

I found in one Department they spent £9k /month on mobiles. For £5,400 PER MONTH less (!) we could have a multiple contract from a major network provider for 400 people. This saves £64,800/year. That could have been a possible £259,200 over the last 4 years! How much are we spending elsewhere on communication at such wastage levels?

Bath Council has introduced New Litter Management System in Tourism Centres generating savings of > 80%. Such schemes would benefit Brixham, Torquay, Babbacombe or Paignton and limit the unsightly overflow of rubbish during the summer months. Each bin is saving over £3,500 per annum! How much could we save? Could some of the savings go towards ‘Pride’ Groups such as the brilliant ‘Pride of Brixham’ and still have savings left over.

Torbay spends £874,000 on Toilet management. Businesses and Groups have offered to take over this management and keep the toilets open for longer, saving some 40% or over £300k but not implemented. Maybe some of these savings could go into Beach Management to extend the period our beaches can fly the coveted Blue Flags. I know business who will do this.

Torbay could pocket or use some and still have money left over. You could have Youth workers – Reinstate Street Wardens – Bring back bus-subsidies – Fund properly Coast & Countryside Trust- Maintain grants to community events – Protect the vulnerable…

And did you know the repair of the concrete walk way at the Banjo is costing us £2.5m. It could simply have been removed for < £100k. Such savings could have been used for multi-storey car park for Brixham, repair of Pavilion (Torquay), or even trust arrangement for Oldway (Paignton)?
